TLC is Travis and Lorna Curry

We met about 10 years ago through Travis' youngest son, Terrell, who had Cerebral Palsy.  Terrell passed away in January 2009.  We also have 2 adults sons and a one year old granddaughter.  On November 12, 2009, we celebrated our 5th wedding anniversary.  We are known as tennis fanatics.

We are Members of Norcross First United Methodist Church, a mission focused Church (sometimes called "that missions Church".

Our church involvement includes being members of an adults Sunday School Class, we are active in the Choir (Lorna plays the flute and Travis sings baritone).  Lorna currently teaches a second grate Sunday School class and Travis facilitates a disciple 1 class.  We are also actively serving on many different committees.

The call to missions

In 2003, Lorna felt the call to go on a short term mission trip to Nicaragua.  After her return and the year of unending stories, Travis felt the call to see for himself what mission work was all about.  They were very blessed by God's work in Nicaragua.    Because of our Church's commitment to that Nicaraguan community, we returned to the same area for several years.  It was a wonderful to  experience and witness what God was doing through a few short term mission trips a year.  But every now and then Lorna would say..."Travis, don't you want to be a missionary?"

On April 17, 2009, we were invited to The Mission Society to share about the work God was doing in Nicaragua and how blessed we were from being a part of it.   After that visit, we received a call from the director of mobilization to see if we would like to explore opportunities in long term missions ministry.  This time when Lorna said "Do you want to go and talk about being full time missionaries?"  Travis said, "Sure!"

On October 12, 2009 we began candidate orientation at The Mission Society.  On October 15, 2009 we learned that we were accepted by The Mission Society.  So, in faith and obedience, we were putting our "Yes" on the table knowing that in God's time, He would put our "Yes" on the map.

On November 25, 2009 (which happens to be Travis' birthday) we learned that we were unanimously approved by the board of directors to be the new directors of the orphanage.  WOW!!  In six weeks we went from a yes on the table to a home and family from God, on the map!  God is Good!!

In August of 2009, in Katima Mulilo, Namibia, Gary and Rebecca Mink, the directors at the Children of Zion Village orphanage, decided to end their long term field ministry.  Around the time of our candidate training, the Board of Directors for the Children of Zion Village asked The Mission Society to consider a ministry partnership and assistance in identifying and placing new,  long term directors.  Upon reviewing the request, two embers of The Mission Society independently decided that WE would be a perfect fit for the vacancy.
